Turning 7
Axel's birthday weekend started early. On Friday, his actual birthday, Axel unfortunately got an inner ear infection. I had to pick him up early from school and we went to the doctor to get medicine. Axel felt well enough that later we could go on a bike ride. This was Axel's first ride on his new BMX bike.
Later that day we went out for dinner to celebrate Axel's birthday.
Saturday morning we ran the second annual Mission Hills 5K race.
Axel's friends Taj and Luca also ran the race.
Later on Saturday we had Axel's birthday party at Pioneer Park.
The kids played games and ran around the park.
It was a windy day in the park so lighting the cake took a while.
A fun day for Axel!
Jogathon
Every year Axel's school has a fundraising event called Jogathon. The kids raise money for their school and participate in a running race. The race format is simple: How many laps can you do on a fixed running course in 30 minutes? Axel takes this VERY seriously and won his age group last year in Kindergarten. How would he do this year?
World class marathoner and Mission Hills resident Meb Keflezighi, winner of both Boston and New York City Marathon, gave great support to the kids (his kids are also at Axel's school).
Axel completed 24 laps this year.
Post race photo with friend Luca.
.....and Axel won 1st place again!
Award ceremony with School Principle Lorden (as princess Leia).
Axel's friend Blake won 2nd place.
